Vlogging a dead horse

New words, how they're created and why they come into existence are always popular subjects for discussion on the Language Change and Varieties paper (ENA5) so this site run by the MacMillan English Dictionary is a great way of keeping up with the latest new words and what they mean.

This week's new word is "vlog" and this week's prize of a packet of Haribo goes to the first 3 students who can tell me what it means. To enter this week's competition, just click on "comment" under this post, type your answer and make sure you leave your name.

And for more information on Haribo and my shares in it, click here.

A Weblog that provides a video journal on a subject rather than text entries. Vlogs are short video entries that take the place of text and are typically listed in chronological order like a text blog

Woo hoo! You are a winner too, Evelyn. Haribo will find its way to you during the next week (providing my kids don't scoff them first).

A vlog is a weblog which uses video as its primary presentation format. It is primarily a medium for distributing video content. Vlog posts are usually accompanied by text, image, and additional meta data to provide a context or overview for the video. Vlogs or videoblogs are created by vloggers or videobloggers, while the act itself is referred to as vlogging or videoblogging.

Oh go on then, seeing as it's you. There were only going to be 3 prizes, but I'll make it 4 just this once...

But remember: for every Haribo you eat you take one out of the mouths of my starving children.

But this is definitely the last prize this week.

Vlog is not a genre, it is a broad description of what is delivered technologically, meaning that it includes video and other content.

It's too late - the prizes have all been claimed! Of course, being a member of LA16 is a prize in itself, or something....

Of course,Osasu all you really need to do to get hold of those lovely lovely Haribo is to answer this week's question, which can be found on the blog today.

Stone me! You've actually created a blog called "What No Haribo".

This is slightly disturbing and I think your creative talents could probably be used elsewhere - like in answering this week's Haribo-tastic question.
