A real live language debate

I've just stumbled across this debate on The Guardian's blog. Here's what ENA6 is all about, in a nutshell: a debate about language in which different positions and opinions are put forward. Have a read of the main article (it's quite short) and then take a sample of some of the more coherent responses to see if you can identify descriptive and prescriptive positions in the debate.

thanks for all ur help with this blog sir, it's been great tool, teaching us how to apply what we learn in class to the "real" world. will you carry on through the summer, or she we just not expect fun updates till september for the young uns?

oh and perhaps my last question, for 2a, when you're writing your creative piece and you want to mark a linguistic feature you'll write about in 2b, how do you go about it without confusing the examiner?

Hi Adesola, sorry I didn't reply before the exam. Hope it went well!

There'll be blog updates all through the summer, but I'll need to make some changes to the structure of it all to reflect the mix of old and new syllabuses that we'll have in September.

Thanks for your contributions!
