ENGA1 mode exercise 2

Here's another extract for a bit of mode analysis. It's taken from a discussion forum on a music festival website. See what you make of it. If it's a bit blurred, click on the image to get a better picture. Try applying the same questions as the last revision post:
  1. Where would you place this extract on the mode continuum?
  2. Why?
  3. What language evidence can you produce for your decision?

spontaneous because speech is not planned 'not sure what else is on...' this shows this time has not been put into the construction of the conversation as it a sudden thought.

More Non-standard than standard as it has non-standard spelling like 'wiv' and 'fittah' and non-standard punctuation like 'theyre'.

The text is permanent as it is transferred from the sender to reciever in their internet mail inbox and it cannot be amended once it is sents

I'm with you on spontaneous and non-standard Kirsty, but it's a web-based discussion forum rather than an email, so it is something you can edit and therefore not permanent as such.

2 out of 3 aint bad... what about how interactional or transactional the extract is?
